Bedroc did a problem tree analysis of the farming community to better understand their current issues and problems and if these CBOs could be relevant. Availability and non-availability of quality seeds came up as a major issue. So BEDROC and the Water User Associations decided to convert their farmers into seed producers and sought the support of the agri-business unit of ICRISAT-TNAU. Based on this, some water user associations were supported financially and technically to start production of paddy seeds. This success led the WUAs to take up seed production of pulses as well. With the increase of the business side of this intervention, it was decided to start an agri-producer company (Nagai Agricultural Producer Company Ltd. - NaProC) under the brand name Kaveri.
